our story
Steven grew up playing the drums but could rarely carry around his acoustic drum set. While studying and tapping at his desk all the time at Cornell University, he set out to create the most portable drumming machine with his classmate, Matt Skeels. After dozens of prototypes and iterations, the Specdrums Ring was born. A team was then formed in Boulder CO, soon after which Specdrums became one of the most accessible, novel musical instruments on Kickstarter.

our vision
Music is an unbelievably powerful way to connect people that can transcend language barriers, cultures, and personalities. Our goal is to create the most accessible, portable musical instruments that give anyone the freedom to play music anywhere. Everyone taps, so everyone should be able to turn those taps into real musical beats and sounds.

our technology
We're proud of our patented technology. After dozens of Ring iterations, we've arrived at a design that comfortably fits almost all finger sizes, detects over a thousand unique colors, is highly responsive to taps with negligible Bluetooth latency, and remains charged for hours at a time. Our technology is also modular - our Specdrums modules can be stuck into many different forms we're working on, like drumsticks, foot pedals, marker caps, and bouncy balls.
